PREPARATION
1. Remove the back cover and install the batteries according to the battery diagrams inside the battery compartment.
2. Pre‐test: Press the power switch one time and aim the Digital Mini‐Tach at a fluorescent light. With the propeller indicating a 2‐bladed propeller, the Mini‐Tach will read 3600 RPM (+/‐ 100 RPM). Press the on switch again to indicate a 3‐bladed propeller. The Mini‐Tach will read 2400 RPM (+/‐ 100 RPM). Press the on switch again to switch the unit off. The unit will shut itself off after about 5 minutes, but only if it is not detecting an incandescent or fluorescent light source.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Press the on switch once to use with a 2‐bladed propeller and twice to use with a 3‐bladed propeller. 2. Start your model engine according to the manufacturer’s instructions. With your helper holding the model and while standing behind the arc of the propeller, hold the tach about 4‐6 inches (102‐152mm) away from the propeller and aim the Mini‐Tach directly at the rotating blade. The Mini‐Tach will indicate the RPM x 100.
Special note: The Mini‐Tach uses a sensitive photocell to measure the number of times the propeller blade crosses between the sensor and the light from the sun. In the event the readings become erratic, change the direction that the model is facing by 90 degrees and take another reading.
